An article on distilled water made by experienced reviewer
A well know tester, reviewer and hardware guru Martinm from Martinsliquidlab made a nice clear article about distilled water and its advantages and disadvatages.
While distilled water does perform best by a slight gap in thermal and flow ratings it still has some drawbacks:
"Water is corrosive and despite the efforts plating is T perfect."
"We are running closed loops where galvanic corrosion can and will occur with enough time under the right conditions."
"Experience water coolers know that it only takes a short time for “non-conductive” distilled water to become “Conductive” after running through a loop. So your loop and parts will basically dirty the water in only a short period of time regardless of how clean it is."
EKWB team thanks to Martin for taking time and sharing his experience and thoughts on this matter.
However EKWB still and will recommend usage of quality coolants as their content and performance has made a big improvement over last few years and by our testing and experience it does provide a protection for your equipment.
A temperature difference (usually within 1C range) between best coolants and distilled water can easily be lost by using improper thermal paste or thermal pads.
Our blocks were, are and will be best performers.
Happy water cooling in 2012!
